Stop Whining
digital wall collage

2007

This is a wall collage inspired by a book I was reading that was an analytical breakdown of what physical beauty is and why we consider it to be so. According to this book, babies look a certain way to attract the attention of their mothers while they are totally helpless. Psychologically, humans find big heads, large eyes, and small mouths innocent and visually appealing. I took these ideas and morphed exaggerated versions of these baby heads onto celebrity bodies, celebrities being another cultural standard of beauty. I put them in a forest, as if they were biological anomalies whose bodies had evolved but not their heads.
